Where the envelope is glued together, i.e.: Center Seam, Diagonal Seams or Side Seams with the bottom flap. Center Seam - located approximately in the center of some envelopes. Diagonal Seams - seams running from the bottom corners to near the center of the throat.
Side Seams -
where the seam runs almost parallel to the side fold. STRAIGHT GRAIN Envelopes manufactured with the grain direction parallel to or perpendicular to the length or width of the envelope. TAB EXTENDED Ungummed, and often unscored short flap used on file folder and similar envelopes. THUMB CUT A notched opening to allow easy access to contents either through face only or face & back. TYVEK Very light, durable, water-resistant, spun fiber material used as a substitute for paper envelopes. The added expense of this material may be offset by lower postage on the weight of the envelopes. Tyvek is a registered trademark of Dupont. WALLET FLAP A large rectangular seal flap that extend over the back wall. WINDOW An opening cut into the envelope which allows the inside material to be viewed. Open Panel - an open panel with no covering. Patched Window - a window opening with a specific covering material. a) No-Glare - Slightly opaque in appearance, most commonly used. (Also called Poly). b) Clear View - Completely transparent. (Also Called Tricite & Cello). c) Glassine - The most opaque patching material. (Not recommended for Postal Scanners).
